Emily’s First Blog

Welcome!

I’m very excited to have this website up and running – a special thank you to my friend who developed and designed this website for me.

My blog is a place where I will fill you in on the shoots I’ve been doing and projects I’m working on.

This past weekend I did my first “Rock the Dress” photo shoot. It was very exciting and I was so happy to be working with Larysa and Andrew again, as I did the photos for their wedding this past May.

“Rock the Dress” is a really cool concept, that Larysa introduced me to, where brides get to wear their dresses again in fun and crazy places – that may or may not ruin the dress (we tried not to ruin it, even though it did get a “little” wet).

Larysa and I shot together over 3 days and many hours and I’m very happy with the results. The first night we went out late and shot using only street and bus shelter light. The results were varied as the lighting was unpredictable when cars were passing or clouds rolled in. They turned out to be very orange in color and very grainy which I really liked. The second day we shot at a local graffiti wall and then at the Governor General’s. The graffiti wall was really fun and the vibrant colors contrasted really nicely with her white dress. Our final location was Petrie Island and then things got really exciting. We started out with some portraits of her and her husband and then took it to a whole other level. We started progressively getting the dress wetter and wetter until she was in the water completely. It was really outgoing and fun and we had a super time trying poses and different angles. (Amazingly the dress was not ruined in the making of photographs – when it dried it was just a little sandy but I think with a trip to the dry cleaners it will be fine.)

While working at Petrie Island I shot my first roll of 120 film on my new Holga camera. The Holga is a plastic toy camera (that uses professional grade film). It’s a very exciting new toy for me to play with along side my fish eye and 4 color 35mm. Toy cameras are a new hobby of mine which I am really enjoying and are so different from the digital camera I’ve been using. The results are unpredictable and imperfect and has been bringing me back to what I truly love about film photography.

Okay, that was pretty long – look for updates on the results of my first holga experience and more upcoming photo shoots.

Cheers!

Emily
