Tattoo Photo shoot – warning
A few months ago I asked if any of my friends if they were interested in having pictures taken and my friend, GC, said he would be getting a tattoo done in June and would I like to photograph that. I said, “sure.” So last week I did my first tattoo shoot – it was really cool and I got some interesting shots of the tattoo process. Warning: some people may find tattoo photographs to be of a graphic nature.

GC’s artist was cool enough to let me photograph. Since I haven’t had a chance to run his portraits by him I have decided not to post any photos of his face in this blog but may in a future entry.
One of the biggest challenges for me was working, only, with available light. Given the amount of concentration it takes using a flash isn’t advisable!

Tattoo photos always look cool in black & white – I don’t know why but I tried a series of them in B&W.

I found it difficult to actually get the tattoo as it was being done as the artist kept things well covered while he was working.

The process took a little over 2 and a half hours but I felt like the time went pretty quickly (always easy to say when it’s not you)!

Now, the design is based on a portion of a poster, the artist’s name is escaping me now. (Hopefully, GC can give me an update on the artist).
It was a fun way to spend a few hours on my day off and I think I got some interesting photos for my portfolio. Who’s next?
