2nd Birthday Cake
For my nieces 2nd birthday I was asked to make a cake – she is really into peep, chirp and quack – I don’t know much about them but she really likes ducks, chicks and birds. I took that idea and decided to do a pond top designed cake.
I made a fondant duck from white fondant with a yellow bill and painted on his eyes.
I made the bird in purple and give him a white beak with painted eyes.
I made a fondant frog to go with the pond theme and I used a paint brush to make water circles on the marshmallow fondant with pearl powder.
I made waterlilies and lilypads to complete the look.
I made a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream icing covered in a teal marshmallow fondant.
I used a small flower border with pink pearl powder and circles and flowers around the side. I was very pleased with how the cake turned out and that my niece really loved the little characters on the top.

Thanks! I really enjoying cake decorating – I do wish I was a better baker but I think that cake was pretty good – if I do say so myself!
