Rome: Day 1 part 2

So our second day in Rome has been going great – we’ve been walking since around 9:30AM this morning and are finally back at the hotel for a rest before supper. My computer is telling me that I took 897 photos today and that’s not including the ones that my mum and husband took – oh my!

But I wanted to conclude our first day in Rome.

Santa Maria del Popolo

After our rest in the afternoon we woke up and walked over to the Piazza del Popolo to visit the church Santa Maria del Popolo which was built in 1099 to get rid of demons (according to Frommer’s Day by Day).

The Piazza and church were beautiful and full of interesting characters (and some kind of MTV stage being set up).

After walking around the Piazza del Popolo we decided to look for a place to eat. My mum had done a lot of research so we walked down via Corso in search of a restaurant that was recommended.

L'enoteca Antica Restaurant

And we found it! We sat outside on a little side alley away from the crowds and enjoyed a wonderful meal!

We enjoyed a little break and Mum did some of her journaling while we chatted.

Spanish Steps fountain - Bernini (Sr.)

After dinner we walked over to the Spanish Steps and saw the fountain by Pietro Bernini (Bernini’s father) and enjoyed the evening at the Spanish Steps.

Spanish Steps at night - Rome

There were still plenty of people at the Spanish Steps (although not as many as during the day today!)

After seeing the Spanish Steps we walked around for another hour or so before returning to the hotel.
