Light Painting – first attempt
So while I’m away by myself I thought I would FINALLY do some light painting – this is my first, pretty terrible attempt. However the technique was good but composition was bad. I especially like that you can see my socks!
I’ve been interested in light painting, also known as light writing and light graffiti, for a while and kept meaning to try it out but this was rekindled with a notice for a light painting workshop in London UK – which unfortunately I won’t be able to attend but thanks to some tips from the workshop organizer I’ve been able to start my experimenting.
Here is another early attempt – better but still not quite on. It was supposed to be a smiley sun – haha – something I thought I could do easily…
Here I wanted to trying layering and what might happen. It’s a mess basically but a fun mess.
I wanted to try some writing so after a few totally brutal attempts I got a lot closer with this “Hoefler” and a star…
Here I was even closer but still difficult to read. I decided to try the name of my brother-in-law’s company with much better results.
Overall, I think for early experimenting I was successful. I set my camera to starry sky which was F3.3 to 4.5 for 30 seconds at 80ISO. I would like to develop some content and started thinking of some traditional designs I would like to light paint. I attempted a sky dome but only did a few shots before I became tired from the time change so maybe I will pick up the flashlight again tomorrow night.
Next is to experiment with film – unfortunately I’ve got 400 ISO in my camera at the moment and I think 100 will likely be better…there is always the weekend!
