For those of us who live in Ottawa, we’ve probably all heard in the news about the apartment building fire in the Glebe. It was shocking and sad to hear about all the people who were displaced. Today I happened to be nearby and got to see the destruction.

It was shocking to see – what would I do if suddenly everything I owned was gone? I have no idea.

It was strange to see some rooms looking almost normal while others were almost completely destroyed.

I’m not sure if the individuals will be able to recover anything not destroyed in the fire. It appears that the building is being propped up at the back so I suspect that it’s been completely condemned.

To help the victims of the fire  you can donate to a special account set up by the Royal Bank on Bank Street and First Avenue (00116-1012954). The proceeds are to be distributed to the affected residents. There will also be a fundraising concert at the Glebe Community Centre on Feb. 20.
