Tendon Procedure
So on Monday night we had a party with our soccer team and when my husband was trying to get the tv on he accidentally knocked a knife off the counter and into his foot. This is everyone trying to get the situation under control.
Now, you may be asking yourself why do I have a picture of my husband bleeding on the floor, well, I document things and that’s how I roll. Honestly though, as you can see he’s smiling and once I started documenting it…it just kept going.
Don’t read past here if you are sensitive to blood – photos are medically graphic.
Now, paramedics were called to the scene and once the bleeding stopped it was steristriped and polysporin was applied.
Day 2: the saga continues. The wound was not looking right so off to the emergency clinic for us. Once at the emergency clinic it was determined that a tendon in his foot, I believe the extensor hallucis longus, had been damaged the night before and was only about 50% attached. So we were referred to the hospital to see a surgeon to determine if the tendon needed to be fixed and from the sounds of it the answer was yes.
So we started waiting.
and waited…
And waited…actually the surgeon was here now.
So his foot was prepped and opened up for the second time to have a look. Once the surgeon was inside he decided that he would stitch the tendon back together (using a kessler stitch). It was pretty amazing to watch the procedure and see the doctor at work. I was very impressed!
So the tendon was reattached and then he was closed up.
Here is the foot post-procedure.
So that was the start of my week – I hope the rest of the week is less eventful!

I’m super late at reading this, but OMG. Andrew and I both hope that Mike is OK. I’d say that was pretty eventful. The surgery must have been amazing to watch.

Hi guys!
I just wanted to let everyone know that I am doing much better and thanks for all of the “get well’s, etc…”
I am off of soccer until Mid-June and will start Athletic Therapy next week under the guidance of the experts at Carleton University.
All the best!
Mike
