I’ve been working on a photography project – previously described – but to present the poem “i carry your heart with me” by ee cummings as part of a wedding gift. My friend and I went over several concepts and here is the results of some of them. I downloaded a typewriter font and removed pages from my notebook and printed the poem onto the pages and then put them back into the notebook. Read the rest of this entry »

My holga camera has been out of commission as the foam that holds the film inside fell out and jammed up. Today I pulled together the supplies to fix it and finally have a roll of film in to test my fixed holga. I appreciated the help from all the forum members at toycamera.com who made some great suggestions and shared experiences about their own similar holga issues. Hopefully, the test roll turns out as I’m looking to use my camera for a project. Read the rest of this entry »

(The art featured in this photo is by Karen Hodge Russell and Simon Brascoupe)
Last night was the show opening for Our Native Roots at Sweetgrass Aboriginal Bistro and I think it was a great success. I was so happy that many of my friends and family came out to the opening. We had some wonderful appetizers to start with door prizes and an auction of art pieces followed by dinner inside the restaurant.

Here are my photos displayed inside the restaurant. Read the rest of this entry »

In preparation for the show I’ve been preparing new prints for the show. This is my four directions print. I really wanted it to have a fluidity and also have hints of birds (which hopefully people will be able to see) – I am going to add some beadwork to this piece but you will have to go and see the show to see it. So this weekend I will be working on a cake for a baby shower potluck at my day job on Monday. I was trying to think of something new that I haven’t done before that would be fun and creative. So I started to think about children’s stories and songs.

So this week there will be some product testing taking place. First, though. I was VERY excited when Estelle posted on twitter a link to my blog.
For my husband’s birthday I really wanted to get him an D-SLR that would be a good camera to learn on. After doing a lot of research I decided on the new Nikon D5000. It has manual options but also has some preset and auto options. We took some photos on the weekend but I want to do some tests and see how it works on the auto and preset options – photos to come!
We also a purchased a netbook. I did some research and the acer netbook was highly rated in Consumer Reports. We want to use this computer mostly for web use but also to dump photos onto when we travel – as a back up to the memory cards. I love that it’s really small about 10inches by 7inch and 1inch thick. It’s really light. I don’t find that it’s particularly fast like my mac but I think it will do the trick and Acer provides a lot of software once the computer is registered. It also has a built in webcam so you can use skype or other video services. It also has 160 harddrive and is energy star rated. The battery life is about 2-3 hours depending on use so I plan to purchase a second battery for back up.
This week I will be starting on my mixed media pieces for the art show starting in mid-August so I have a busy few weeks ahead of me!

Summer is upon us and with one weekend exhibit under my belt I am preparing now for a mid-August show with my dad and another artist. I am very excited about this opportunity. Today we met casually with one of the owners to discuss the show and our gallery night plans. Read the rest of this entry »

For several years I have been frequenting a graffiti wall in Ottawa to document the wall and the amazing art that is there. The wall is located in a park at the corner of Bronson and Slater. Read the rest of this entry »
