DIY – lip gloss and other crafts

January 31st, 2011

Recently I’ve been doing a lot of DIY projects since my health hasn’t been great – it gives me little activities to do and keeps me entertained in the evenings.

This past weekend I worked on several projects. I’ve been excited to try a recipe for homemade lip gloss. I got the idea for my friend, Martha Stewart, but used a recipe that I was given at Arbour Recycling.

The recipe was very simple – bees wax, honey and vegetable or nut oil. I got the bees wax bars at Arbour and used a teaspoon of forest honey. They recommend almond oil but I used a mix of vegetable and hazelnut oil.

I used small jam jars and cleaned out cosmetic containers to fill with my homemade lip gloss. Early testing is great – my lips are getting super soft!

i have also been doing some sewing. i made a t-shirt grocery bag (also good for small loads of laundry.

And finally, after doing a 7 day cleanse a few week ago I’ve been making my own trail mix.

this week is broken up pecans, flax seed, almond slivers, dried cherries and raisins and coconut. I dry roast the seeds but if you want to add a little something you can roll them in a bit of honey before you roast them.

Granola Making Time!

So this week I’ve been busy but also not active, other than soccer on Monday and I think by now people know how that ended. I read on my friend Heidi’s blog about this granola she’s been making, using applesauce. I love granola and I love applesauce so I thought I would give it a go. The recipe was easy to follow and make.

So here is my first batch – I changed the recipe slightly based on what I had in the house. Read the rest of this entry »
