This weekend was a busy one with completing one project and also completing 2 cakes.
Here are the final cakes:

First cake up my drum kit cake which used the 4 direction colors: red, black, yellow and white. I was trying to incorporate geometric shapes, music records and notes and a drum kit on the top. I was very pleased with the result. The lower tier was a chocolate with chocolate buttercream icing and the top tier was vanilla with vanilla buttercream icing.

So I came to Edmonton this week for a conference and in the evenings I had to pass the time so the first night I ate in the hotel cafe since it was late and I wasn’t sure where was good nearby.

The cafe is called Pradera Café and had a lovely menu. I had a salad with bocconcini cheese, tomatoes and pine nuts. The dressing was light and flavorful.

So last night after my first fondant and gum paste class my friend came over to make a 50s inspired cake for her mum’s birthday. I came up with the design idea, she baked the cake and then together we made it happen. Working with a friend was great because the decorating went really “quickly” and we had the cake iced and decorated in under 3 hours. Read the rest of this entry »
