More from the Holga TIM

August 5th, 2010

I apologize for the poor image quality but here are some recent results from my Holga TIM. This graffiti wall I walk past nearly every day. I think it looks great in Holga form.

“Coffee Run”

June 26th, 2010

This coffee run wasn’t your average trip over to Bridgehead for a green tea latte but was a well organized cruise with Ottawa Porsche enthusiasts. The organizers map a route, no passing each other, one stop along the way for coffee and then we drove to a predetermined restaurant for brunch (this time in Westport) and then we made our way back.

It was a very relaxing morning and nice to be out when it was a bit overcast but not raining.

It was great to see older Porsches, newer Porsches. Fast Porsches, faster Porsches.

Several times the clouds cleared and the sky was a nice blue.

Once in Westport everyone found a parking spot and then we went to the Westport Inn for brunch. Locals were wondering what was with the influx of Porsches.

Unfortunately, the skies did open on the way home and we broke rank at the break to beetle home. All in all, it was a lot of fun and we definitely look forward to the next coffee run.

Holgapalooza

June 7th, 2010

Hello Blog Readers,

I apologize for my absence but my work life has taken over my life and I’ve been pretty busy. Hopefully, I will be back to my regular blogging schedule.

So the Holgapalooza poster and website have been launched and I’m very excited to get shooting! All the themes are interesting to me and the prizes are awesome!

Check out the poster here:

In other news, I’ve had a lot of feedback and emails regarding my cakes. I’m very flattered! Unfortunately, with my current state of busy-ness I haven’t done any cakes recently. I do look forward to doing some soon!

Soccer is taking over my life – I play 3 days a week and with the World Cup starting this Friday and going to see Toronto FC soon my love of soccer only grows! Who knew I could love a team sport so much?

I will have some photography projects coming up and look forward to old friends visiting next month and my 5 year wedding anniversary. I hope to have some interesting stuff to share with you soon!

Gakkenflex – testing

May 8th, 2010

I’ve been keeping busy with my photography which has been really enjoyable – I’ve been just loving my gakkenflex and caught Lily is a cute yawn that I just had to share! (This is a photograph of a negative which is why it looks a bit strange.)

Details of this project to follow. I’m also warming up the Holgas for some intensive photo sessions for this year’s Holgapalooza! I can’t wait!

Why I love Light Leaks!

April 16th, 2010

So recently, I’ve been talking a lot about all my favorite toy camera/lo-fi online hangouts and supplies so I thought I would give a quick run down of two of my faves.

The background, over a year ago my aunt Kate showed me something she got from a photographer friend of her’s for a Holga contest, Holgapalooza. She knew that was really into my Holga and thought I might be interested in entering – she was right! This introduction to the contest got me interested in Light Leaks magazine and helped me find the toy camera community.

I probably visit the Toy Camera website and forums at least once a day – it’s the best crowd I’ve found in terms of people willing to help and offer advice. There is always examples of what people are doing and images to see and commentary about the latest and greatest toy and lo-fi cameras out there. The website does reviews of cameras, article on photographers and galleries. Recently, I’ve gotten some great advice about Japan and comments on my first Gakkenflex images in the forums. When I started the traveling toy camera project I went to everyone and said, who’s in and what camera should we use? And over 25 people have signed up so far.

Light Leaks magazine is awesome! (And, no, I’m not just saying that!) I love the reviews, how-tos and seeing the amazing images submitted by the Light Leaks community. The greatest edition to Light Leaks has been the shop - a Canadian run camera, film and accessories shop. With affordable, fast and reliable shipping and $2 film, my dreams have come true! It’s also wonderful to be able to support a local company and independent magazine. Preview Issue 17 of Light Leaks here!

Destruction

February 7th, 2010

For those of us who live in Ottawa, we’ve probably all heard in the news about the apartment building fire in the Glebe. It was shocking and sad to hear about all the people who were displaced. Today I happened to be nearby and got to see the destruction.

It was shocking to see – what would I do if suddenly everything I owned was gone? I have no idea. Read the rest of this entry »

2010: Off and running

January 5th, 2010

So my New Year started off and running! I’ve got lots of projects on the go and I’m really excited about them.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to make some flowers for an event – corsages and boutonnieres. It was fun working with flowers again and I was really happy with the results (Wordless Wednesday this week).

I’ve also been working on a photography/writing project which hopefully I can talk more about soon – so stay tuned. Read the rest of this entry »

Christmas

December 29th, 2009

Christmas eve mass was beautiful this year with a winter wonderland theme. It was so great to spend time with my family and friends. I was very lucky to receive some great toy and lofi cameras for Christmas including a build it myself stereo pinhole camera.

The weekend was really icy and wet – here is our Smart covered in ice.

Light Painting – first attempt

November 3rd, 2009

First attempt - pretty bad actuallySo while I’m away by myself I thought I would FINALLY do some light painting – this is my first, pretty terrible attempt. However the technique was good but composition was bad. I especially like that you can see my socks!

I’ve been interested in light painting, also known as light writing and light graffiti, for a while and kept meaning to try it out but this was rekindled with a notice for a light painting workshop in London UK – which unfortunately I won’t be able to attend but thanks to some tips from the workshop organizer I’ve been able to start my experimenting.

another early attempt
