Things I’ve learned about Rome…

October 30th, 2009

Rome-sights

1. It is very expensive – even when you try to save money: I definitely recommend selecting a hotel with a good breakfast and making lunch – visit a local grocery store to pick up things and take a piece of fruit from breakfast to go so you have a mid-morning snack.

2. When in Rome do as the Romans do: for real! Where they eat and buy their groceries is cheaper than where the tourists eat. The subway is very affordable at €1 a trip or you can purchase day passes but you can also walk a lot of places if you time things out well and that will allow you to see a lot of the city and also find those little places that the Romans go too.

Rome Day 2: hey, if you can see it we can walk to it!

September 26th, 2009

Today was filled with lots of walking – since we couldn’t get tickets to the Borghese Museum and gardens we decided to do do some other stuff instead…and stuff we did!

Merman Barberini statue

This morning started with a trip on the metro to a Barberini statue of a Merman – the bee coat of arms indicates the family (located just below the merman).

Rome: Day 1 part 2

September 26th, 2009

So our second day in Rome has been going great – we’ve been walking since around 9:30AM this morning and are finally back at the hotel for a rest before supper. My computer is telling me that I took 897 photos today and that’s not including the ones that my mum and husband took – oh my!

But I wanted to conclude our first day in Rome.
