1. It is very expensive – even when you try to save money: I definitely recommend selecting a hotel with a good breakfast and making lunch – visit a local grocery store to pick up things and take a piece of fruit from breakfast to go so you have a mid-morning snack.
2. When in Rome do as the Romans do: for real! Where they eat and buy their groceries is cheaper than where the tourists eat. The subway is very affordable at €1 a trip or you can purchase day passes but you can also walk a lot of places if you time things out well and that will allow you to see a lot of the city and also find those little places that the Romans go too.

On our third night in Rome we were back over by the Spanish Steps and did a little night walking tour of the area.

Today was filled with lots of walking – since we couldn’t get tickets to the Borghese Museum and gardens we decided to do do some other stuff instead…and stuff we did!

This morning started with a trip on the metro to a Barberini statue of a Merman – the bee coat of arms indicates the family (located just below the merman).

So our second day in Rome has been going great – we’ve been walking since around 9:30AM this morning and are finally back at the hotel for a rest before supper. My computer is telling me that I took 897 photos today and that’s not including the ones that my mum and husband took – oh my!
But I wanted to conclude our first day in Rome.
